Interviewing can be a very daunting task for many and often, lack of preparation can lead to a perceived lack of interest and therefore cost you the role. Our team have pulled together their top tips for interview success. So sit back, spare a few minutes and read our top tips to ensure you enter your interview as prepared as possible!
- Research! We are living in a digital age with the internet at our fingertips. We have a vast amount of information available almost instantly so this should be a relatively easy task to complete! Try finding out who the key stakeholders within the business are, how long the company or group have been operating for, what are the company values? Read a little into the company history, etc.
- If you are being represented by a Recruitment Consultant, speak to them, ask questions about the client and gather as much information as possible. The consultant will know what the company like to see
- Prepare your travel route for the day, leave earlier than you usually would and arrive 10-15 minutes early for your interview slot
- It is important to dress appropriately for the job, many companies have different dress codes, if in doubt phone the business and ask what the dress code is
- Listen to the questions, take your time and then come up with your response. No need to rush, well thought out answers to the questions is a must
- Take copies of your CV to the interview, the interviewer will most likely have it with them although it is good to have extra copies. If you have a portfolio, take this as well, it can be used as an easy conversation starter
- Prepare questions for the interview, take a pen, pad or device to take notes, this will show the interviewer you are engaged
- Be prepared to discuss previous roles, if you can back up some of your answers with examples in previous work environments this will be a great opportunity to display how your previous employment has given you relevant experience
- Know your worth, there is a reason you have the interview so be confident and not arrogant!
- Close the interview, ask for feedback, ask if they have any concerns about you for this position. This will give you an opportunity to answer any concerns they may have
The key for any job interview is to be interested, just turning up and answering some questions is not enough. If you follow the tips above you will be prepared for any interview you may have.
